Around the same time the novel takes place, Morrill was shipwrecked off the coast of Australia and came to live with a group of Aboriginal Australians, completely adopting their language, customs, and way of life for seventeen years. Poetic and captivating- Beautiful writing which captures a period and interior life of the characters. I compared it with Kate Grenville's 'Secret River' and found 'Remembering Babylon' a more sensitive and humanitarian portrayal of early settlers. I particularly enjoyed the connections with nature and natural resources. In REMEMBERING BABYLON, Malouf once again uses his native Queensland as the locale of a most intriguing story.
